Thanks To Cheap Gas, Europeans Expand to the United States
Earlier this year, a German company publically announced that they are interested in expanding their clientele to the United States. They claim that they wish to do this because America’s natural gas prices are cheaper than that of Europe.
Austrian business Voestalpine has announced that they plan on building an iron ore processing plant in Texas due to the high gas processes in their small country. This plant is supposed to be worth several hundred million dollars. Quite a hefty price tag but According to experts, this is supposed to create 150 jobs for people in the United States and the company expects to have a major increase in production by the year 2020.
Royal Dutch Shell is planning on building a several million dollar chemical plant in Pennsylvania which is expected to create several hundred permanent jobs as well as several thousand jobs for construction.
People in Europe have noted that if Europe doesn’t directly address the issue of energy in their countries, then more jobs will open in the United States. This fact doesn’t seem to be very appealing to many people living in Europe.
Apparently, Germany isn’t the only country that has been interested in American gas. The gas prices in Asia have also skyrocketed, so they are also making investments in the United States.
The gas prices here in the United States is so cheap that financial analysts say that by the year 2015, the United States will have gone over Russia as the international community’s top cheap gas supplier.
European politicians know that they are lagging behind the United States in terms of energy. German Economy Minister Philipp Roesler told a Munich conference in a statement that they need to expand. “We are suffering from high energy prices,” He said in a statement. “There are German companies that are deciding in favor of other locations. The challenge is to promote and expand renewable energies without jeopardizing competitiveness.”
